Hannah Esterhuizen brings over 30 years of rich experience in education, having served in various roles including Foundation Phase teacher, Multigrade educator, Learning Support teacher, Inclusive Education team member, Department Head, Principal, and Curriculum Advisor. She has worked across both rural and urban settings, navigating diverse socio-economic contexts with dedication and insight. Each role, she says, prepared her for the next—culminating in her current position.
On 1 February 2024, Hannah stepped into the role of Foundation Phase Specialist: Afrikaans at Funda Wande.
Over the past four years, she has witnessed the tangible impact of Funda Wande’s focus on Reading for Meaning—not only in improving learners’ academic performance, but also in boosting their confidence across all subjects. Hannah finds particular fulfilment in empowering educators to support learners who are struggling. “Enabling educators to assist struggling learners gives me special joy,” she shares.
She sees her new role—as a Coach of Coaches—as a natural and exciting progression in her lifelong commitment to strengthening foundational learning in South Africa.
