Funda Wande is a dynamic not for profit program founded by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Endowment and donor partners. Working closely with the Department of Education, it aims to ensure that all children in South Africa can read for meaning (Literacy) and calculate with confidence (Maths) in their home-language by the age of 10.
A Teacher Assistant (TA) provides support to the teacher in charge of a classroom and the learning and social development of the children by tutoring individual learners or small groups. TAs will be expected to:
Assist with teacher admin (such as taking roll call or marking)
Help teacher set up equipment, put up classroom displays and prepare materials for lessons.
Help the teacher identify and support struggling learners
Revise lesson material with learners individually or in small groups.
Read aloud to learners, assist them with writing etc.
Do remedial exercises and games with small groups of learners identified by teacher
Ensure the classroom is safe and clean
Comply with state, school and class rules and regulations
Earn the trust of the learners
Grade 12 (NQF level 4).
Experience doing community work and working with young children.
Good literacy and numeracy skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Sepedi and proficiency in English.
Ability to manage large groups of learners and deal with challenging behavior.
An ability to build good working relationships with both learners and other school staff.
Good organizational skills, flexibility, creativity and the ability to take initiative.
Contract: 12 months
Remuneration: TAs will receive a monthly stipend
